An item master is a record that lists key information about an inventory item. This information may include the description, unit of measure, weight, dimensions, ordering quantity, and so forth for an item. An item master is used as an information source for a variety of purchasing and production planning activities. For example, this information is used to specify the unit of measure in which a part will be ordered from a supplier.
