Chief operating officer

The chief operating officer (COO) is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of a business. This position is at the same level as the chief financial officer, who is responsible for all financial activities of the entity. These two positions are ranked just below the chief executive officer in the corporate hierarchy. The COO position is most common in larger organizations, where the CEO does not have sufficient time to adequately address all operational activities.
