Work ticket

A work ticket is a standard form on which workers note the time spent on specific jobs. These tickets are then collected and used to charge the cost of direct labor to jobs. Work tickets are an essential element of job costing, though the manual record keeping work can be replaced with direct entries into a computer program.

If there are a number of jobs currently open, an employee might record many different charges on a work ticket within a short period of time. For larger and more complex jobs, employees will be more likely to only charge their time to one or two jobs during a work period.
