Negligence is the breach of one's duty, resulting in loss or injury. The action taken, or lack thereof, is not what a reasonable and prudent person would do under the given circumstances. Ordinary negligence is typically caused by a lack of management oversight, inadequate training, or poor judgment. Gross negligence arises when an individual exhibits a reckless disregard for reasonable care, potentially or actually resulting in loss or injury. The two concepts differ in the degree of inattention exhibited by a person.
