What are Investment Securities?

Investment securities are bonds and shares that have been acquired for investment purposes. The intent is to profit from the interest and dividend payments that these investments pay out from time to time.

Accounting for Investment Securities

The amount paid for these securities is recorded in the investment securities account in the general ledger. Assets are usually classified in this manner by banks.
