Federal Unemployment Tax Act

The Federal Unemployment Tax Act is a federal law that requires an employer to pay a small percentage of each employee’s wages toward the funding of an unemployment reserve. The rate, net of adjustments, is 0.6% for the first $7,000 of each employee’s pay. This amount is not deducted from employee pay – the employer is responsible for it.
