    Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

    Definition:
GAAP is the set of authoritative accounting standards issued by several standard-setting bodies (particularly the Financial Accounting Standards Board for United States GAAP), which entities should follow in preparing their financial statements. The standards show how to aggregate and present financial information, as well as disclose supporting information.
